Step-by-step instructions for every module, workflow, and feature in CLAapp.

Platform Overview

CLAapp (Company Life Assurance Application) is an enterprise-grade insurance management platform designed to handle the complete lifecycle of life assurance operations. It covers policy management, claims processing, underwriting, agency operations, finance, and reporting.

System Requirements

  • Modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Screen resolution: 1024x768 minimum (1920x1080 recommended)
  • Stable internet connection

User Roles

CLAapp uses role-based access control. Your assigned role determines which modules and actions are available to you:

Super Admin

Full system access — user management, system configuration, all modules

Admin

Administrative functions — user management, reports, core module access

Underwriter

Risk assessment, case management, underwriting decisions

Agent

Sales operations, customer onboarding, policy proposals, commissions

Claims Officer

Claim registration, assessment, document verification

Finance Officer

Premium tracking, commission processing, financial reporting

Retail Officer

Individual life products, customer service, policy servicing

Customer

View own policies, track claims, make premium payments

Dashboard

The dashboard is your central hub showing real-time statistics and recent activity relevant to your role.

Dashboard Components

  • Statistics Cards — Active policies, pending claims, premium revenue, customer count. Cards are color-coded and clickable for drill-down.
  • Recent Activity — Latest policies issued, claims filed, and premium payments received.
  • Alerts — Overdue premiums, pending approvals, and system notifications.

Tip: Dashboard statistics are cached for 5 minutes for performance. Click the refresh icon on any card to get real-time data.

Product Management

Products define the insurance plans available for sale. Each product has specific terms, benefits, premium rates, and underwriting requirements.

Creating a Product

  1. Navigate to Core Modules → Products in the sidebar
  2. Click Create New Product
  3. Enter the product code, name, type (Term, Whole Life, Endowment, etc.)
  4. Configure premium calculation parameters and benefit structures
  5. Set underwriting requirements and risk thresholds
  6. Activate the product to make it available for policy issuance

Customer Management

CLAapp supports both individual and corporate customers. The customer module includes a multi-step registration wizard for thorough data capture.

Registering a Customer

Personal Information — Name, date of birth, gender, contact details, ID number

Address & Contact — Residential address, mailing address, phone, email

Employment & Financial — Occupation, employer, annual income, source of funds

Review & Submit — Verify all details and create the customer record

Searching for Customers

Use the search bar at the top of the customer list to search by name, email, phone, or customer ID. Filters are available for customer type (Individual/Corporate) and status (Active/Inactive).

Policy Management

The policy module manages the complete lifecycle from proposal to maturity or termination.

Issuing a Policy

  1. Navigate to Core Modules → Policies → Create
  2. Select the customer (search by name or ID)
  3. Choose the insurance product
  4. Enter sum assured, policy term, and premium payment frequency
  5. Add beneficiary details
  6. Submit for underwriting review (if required) or issue directly

Policy Servicing

From the policy detail page, you can access servicing options:

  • Assignment — Transfer policy ownership
  • Paid-Up Value — Calculate and convert to paid-up status
  • Bonus Allocation — View and manage bonuses/dividends
  • Free-Look — Process cancellation within cooling-off period

Claims Processing

The claims module provides a structured workflow from initial notification through to settlement or rejection.

Filing a Claim

  1. Navigate to Core Modules → Claims → Register New Claim
  2. Select the policy number or search by customer name
  3. Choose the claim type (Death, Maturity, Disability, etc.)
  4. Enter the incident date and description
  5. Upload supporting documents (death certificate, medical reports, etc.)
  6. Submit for assessment

Underwriting

The underwriting module provides risk assessment tools including a six-factor scoring engine with configurable decision thresholds.

Risk Scoring Factors

Age

Risk weighting based on applicant age group and mortality tables

Health History

Medical conditions, hospitalization records, and current health status

Occupation

Occupational hazard assessment and industry risk classification

Lifestyle

Smoking status, alcohol consumption, high-risk activities

Sum Assured

Coverage amount relative to income and underwriting limits

Medical Examinations

Required medical tests based on age and coverage thresholds

Decision Outcomes

  • Standard Accept — Risk within normal parameters, standard rates apply
  • Rated Accept — Elevated risk, loading applied to premium
  • Refer — Needs senior underwriter or medical officer review
  • Decline — Risk outside acceptable parameters

Premium Management

Manage premium collections, track overdue payments, and view payment schedules across the portfolio.

Key Functions

  • Premium Index — View all premiums with filters for status (Paid, Pending, Overdue)
  • Payment Schedule — View upcoming payment dates and amounts
  • Overdue Management — Automated overdue detection with reminder notifications
  • Receipt Generation — Record payments and generate receipts

Agency Operations

Manage the agent distribution channel including onboarding, commissions, targets, and performance.

Agent Management

Accessible via Business Lines → Agency in the sidebar. Key features:

  • Onboarding — Register new agents with document collection and licensing verification
  • Commission Setup — Configure commission structures by product, tier, and agent level
  • Regional Structure — Organize agents by region, branch, and reporting lines
  • Performance — Track production against targets with leaderboards

Finance Module

The finance module provides financial oversight including revenue tracking, commission processing, and management reports.

  • Financial Dashboard — Revenue, collections, outstanding premiums, commission liability
  • Commission Processing — Calculate, approve, and disburse agent commissions
  • Reconciliation — Match premium receipts with bank statements

Reports & Analytics

Generate, schedule, and export reports across all modules.

Production Reports

Policy issuance volumes, premium collected, and growth metrics

Claims Reports

Claims frequency, settlement ratios, turnaround times, and loss ratios

Financial Reports

Revenue summaries, commission statements, and management accounts

Agent Performance

Individual and team production, conversion rates, and rankings

Underwriting Reports

Acceptance rates, risk distribution, and decision turnaround

Compliance Reports

Audit trails, user activity logs, and regulatory submissions

Scheduled Reports: Reports can be configured to run automatically (hourly, daily, weekly) and delivered via email. Navigate to Reports → Scheduled to configure.

User Management

Administrators can create, edit, and manage user accounts and role assignments.

  • User List — View all users with filters for status, role, and department
  • Role Assignment — Assign or modify roles and permissions per user
  • Activity Log — View detailed audit trail for any user's actions
  • Deactivation — Suspend or deactivate user accounts without deleting data

System Settings

System-wide configuration options available to administrators.

  • Theme — Switch between Light, VS Code Light, and Dark themes (per-user, saved in localStorage)
  • Language — Multi-language support with locale switching
  • Notifications — Configure email and in-app notification preferences
  • Security — Password policies, session timeouts, and 2FA configuration
